Here you can find all the information and answers to your possible questions regarding sky installations or sky television in Southern Spain.
Sky card issues
Q: I'm not receiving subscription channels and the message on my screen says "To upgrade call ....."
A: Your card has been switched off. The most likely reason is that there are payment issues on your account. Please call us and we will reactivate your card. NEVER RING SKY!!!
Q: I'm not receiving movies or sports channels and the message on my screen says “this is the wrong card for this set top box”
A: Your sky box and sky card need pairing. Please call us with details of your box and card and we will do the rest. You can find this info:
Press Services button on your remote control, then press number 4 and then number 5. From System details, write your Model, Version and Serial numbers before calling us. For HD receivers Press Services then 03.
Q: Do you need a UK bank account or a UK address to have Sky in Spain?
A: You do not need either to receive Sky in Spain, Pro-Sky Communication have the solution.
Sky receiver issues
Q: My sky box seems to be frozen and doesn't respond/not receiving channels/Searching for listings/or blank blue screen.
A: Try unplugging your Sky receiver from the mains, leave it for 5 minutes and then plug it back in again. This should solve your problem. This is sometimes caused by build up static in the box and by turning it off for few minutes and resetting should clear the fault.
Q: Error message: "No Satellite signal is being received, Please unplug your receiver"
A: If you are receiving this error and you have already tried to reset the box, there is a possibility your dish may have moved and needs to be realigned again by one of our specialist engineers. This can only be done with special equipment called a Spectrum analyser.
Q: What type of digi box is best for use in Southern Spain?
A: Most receivers work well in on the Costa del Sol. All Sky High Definition and Sky Plus receivers work here, the 160GB one being a little low on signal. We have had superb results with all HD and SD free-sat receivers.
Q: Can I bring my UK TV and Sky equipment with me to Spain?
A: Your TV will work in Spain with your sky equipment, please call us to check if you’re still unsure.
Q: How can I view 3D TV?
A: To view 3D TV you will need a 3DTV and a source. At present you will need a Sky HD (High Definition) receiver and subscription. Its not available via Free-Sat. Or you can buy a 3D DVD player.
Sky dishes issues
Q: What size dish do you recommend for the Costa del Sol?
A: We recommend a minimum 1.2m for free-Sat reception and a 1.3m for Sky subscribers. Any thing smaller will compromise your enjoyment!
Q: Is it normal to lose signal on the Costa del Sol?
A: If you have the recommended size dish as mentioned above then ONLY in heavy rain, and NOT ALL channels, unless your dish is not aligned correctly! However if you buy a complete system for between €150 and €200 you will always have problems as they use smaller dishes!! (Always ring us for a free advice)
Q: How many receivers can connect to a dish?
A: The answer is infinite. You can have an LNB (Low noise block) with 1,2,4 or 8 outputs, for homes and apartments requiring more then you use a Multi switch. All Sky High Definition/Sky Plus and Free-Sat HD PVR receivers require 2 cables from either a dish or multi switch, Standard Sky/Free-Sat receivers require 1.
Q: I live in the community and the president refused to give me permission to have the satellite dish installed. What can I do?
A: By EU law your president must allow you to install and have access to Satellite TV. This right is granted by EU law and the Freedom of Information Act in all EU member countries. Talk to the administration as well as the president as they have the authorisation. If they refuse you can take them to court, and they will decide.
General system questions
Q: Is the FreeSat service available in Spain? Can it be upgraded to Sky?
A: FreeSat is available on the Costa del Sol, but generally we use a 1.2m dish for this service, and as stated above a 1.3m for Sky, so you’re not really able to upgrade. Also FreeSat receivers do not take a sky card either. But you could opt for a bigger dish at the time of install.
You can always have a complete sky system installed without the card and receive all free channels and when ready for more just order a card from us!
We will always ask your requirements during correspondence to see what your future needs may be.
Q: Which Freesat channels can you receive in Spain?
A: You will receive over 180 TV and Radio services at present, and the receivers we use will automatically add new channels when available!
Q: Can I receive sky in other rooms of my house and how can this be done?
A: We are able to offer sky or Free-Sat in other rooms of your home by using your existing internal cabling, you can then view what ever is on the main TV, or a more complex system is having a receiver in another room so you have total independence.
Q: How important is the type of cable you use?
A: using the correct cable is just one of the fundamental parts of any installation, we use gas injected copper over copper cable in all installations, We only buy the best and we can guarantee all installations are 100% perfect for maximum signal, we also endure to hide as much during installation as possible.
Q: What areas of Southern Spain does Pro-sky Communications cover?
A: We cover most of Andalucía, from Granada to Cadiz, Seville to Gibraltar and are usually most days working along the coast from Gibraltar-Sotogrande to Marbella-Benalmadena and Nerja.
